what's the latest you've performed while pregnant?

Just curious......

I'm tentatively scheduled to perform for a charity event two weeks before my due date. I'm basically not going to know if I can do it up until the week of the event, most likely. Who knows if I'll deliver early, or how I will feel. That will be 38 weeks pregnant!

So I was wondering...anybody feel unable to perform that close to their due date? Anyone perform and regret performing? What's the most pregnant performance you had?

  • I performed at 38 1/2 weeks, and it was awesome. Granted, in my advanced condition, I didn't push it too much, and I only did a 5 minute performance, because after that, I needed a nap! :)
    • Oh my life - only a 5 min performance?!!!!!!!!!!!
I should dance at 37 weeks but tribal fusion is definitely too much at the moment.
I don't think I'll go back next term to ATS class, I'll be 36 weeks, because following the lead dancer and performing combos, means I forget to take it easy then am way too knackered afterwards, especially with a half hour drive home.
I still dance by myself and did so all the way through my first pregnancy. It keeps you fit and strong for labour. Just take it at your own pace though.
      xxxxxxxxxx
      • Luckily, I was part of a larger group and kept my part in the show down to two songs, and chose those that I could still do (definately no spinning or laybacks at that late in the game!)

You know your body - make sure you are very hydrated, and take it easy on yourself. However, performing in the way late stages of pregnancy is incredibly fun!
  • I performed a veil solo about 6 weeks before my due date. Had to cut down some of the barrel turns though. I went to a Saidi and cane workshope 2 weeks before my due date. I enjoyed and was very able to do both. I wanted to before at out areas annual guild show but the dates were 10 days before my due date and my first child was 9 days early. This one was one day late so I was bummed that I didn't perform.

Good luck. Just listen to your body, it will tell you what it can handle.
  • At 35 weeks, my troupe did a 3 city tour with Raquy and the Cavemen (Chattanooga, Birmingham, Atlanta). It was a great experience. I slowed down big time after that! My baby was positioned so low, that everything was uncomfortable. Two weeks after that I started having contractions that lasted 2 weeks. I had an easy labor.
  • I attended a workshop at 7 months- distracted Aziza for a bit, working on undulations and horizontal belly circles with my 'bump'
I didn't dance publicly or teach after that 'cause my previous pregnancy didn't allow me so much freedom and I didn't want to make commitments to other people just in case it didn't pan out, but I was scheduled to record a video performance the day my daughter was born (38 weeks) so I was definitely going strong right up to the end. My regret was that the video from the Aziza workshop performance didn't come out =( some kind of electrical interference & now I have no record of my prenatal performance. Since I show mainly from the side (baby was ALL out front) it was kind of funny when mom told me half the audience didn't realize I was pregnant until I turned to the side- & then it was VERY obvious!
  • Well, I backed out of the charity event, Shimmy for a Cure, because i just wasn't sure if I would be able to do it or not, and I wanted them to be able to promote the event and print their programs without having feeling locked into it, or worse, if I backed out or delivered and couldn't make it.

But the week after, friends of mine threw a hafla, and I decided to perform at the last minute! I'm so glad I did, It was so much fun, and lately I've felt so incredibly huge, unattractive, ungraceful and not like myself at all. It was great to get back into costume and back on stage. here's a video clip........this is exactly one week before my due date! I was 1 cm dilated and 75% effaced.

Now I'm just resting at home, off work, and waiting for any day now to meet this baby...........
    • The latest I performed as 8 1/2 months as well. Although I taught up to a week before the baby was born - it really just depends on how you feel.

Here's a youtube video of my second to last performance. I think this was in August/September and the baby was born in October. I'm the last one to slink in during the long intro, but you'll see the belly first. :)
