a buddy and i were talking, and it occurred to me that i have no idea what you would pay a babysitter (our sitter is grandma, and therefore unpaid). i know what i used to charge when i sat in high school, but that was quite a while ago....
so, where do you live (generally, for example, dc metro area or just outside of phoenix), and what a sitter charges per hour (for one kid--my sister used to sit for a family with 5 kids under 5 years old, and yeah, she made crazy money 20 years ago, but that's a special case)....

Re: what's the going rate for babysitters?
Sat, March 8, 2008 - 9:01 PMIm in the SF Bay Area. .. I guess it depends on what kind of sitter you get (A teen, a nanny, day care,etc.). Teens, or someone that doesnt have alot of experience may be cheaper. I used to work through a nanny agency...and for 1 child, you made $12 an hour(Base...then you may get tips, and be paid travelling fees))...and $2 an hour each additional child. So if it were 5 kids, Id make $20 an hour.

Re: what's the going rate for babysitters?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 8:31 AMWe're about 20miles from Atlanta, GA and 2-3 years ago, I paid approx $8-$9/hour to a -just-out-of-high-school girl who was also a teacher in my daughters' after school program. I say approximate because I usually rounded up to pay whole hours.

Re: what's the going rate for babysitters?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 9:08 AMI am in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. I pay $6-7 for one child and $10 for both my 4 year old and almost 1 year old. One reason why I am so happy my mom lives nearby.

Re: what's the going rate for babysitters?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 3:58 PMHere in Seattle thngs are pretty spendy like in the bay area. We pay around 10-12$ and hour for almost anyone that we trust. of course if we found a younger teen or something we wouldn't have to pay as much but that might mean picking her up and taking her home. also needing to be home early and rarely are they available on school nights. so the higher expense is usually worth it to have someone who is more experienced on the job.

Re: what's the going rate for babysitters?
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 9:22 PMWe do say spendy don't we? :) I just moved from Queen Anne (in Seattle) and the going rate was a whopping $15/hr! In Lynnwood it's $9-10. I'd say check Craigslist and see what people are posting for rates.

Re: what's the going rate for babysitters?
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 5:48 PMMy daughter usually gets twelve dollars an hour for two kids, and she is CPR, child, infant, adult certified.
That is abit on the low side since she is certified, so you realy have to take into consideration a few things. -

Mon, June 9, 2008 - 4:53 PMwe also pay teens more who can drive themselves to and from our place vs needing a ride home.
generally they get themselves to our place on their own.
