Sorry it took me sooo long, but check out my picture of my gorgeous boy Oscar who was born on 30th December 2007. After asking what natural things helped in childbirh I ended up having an epidural and he was delivered by ventouse as his ear was sticking out into the world before the rest of him and he got stuck!! This is very appropriate for me as I'm a bit of a folk singer on the sly ha ha!!!
Anyway, I've managed to go back to belly dance once a week with the support of my lovely boyfriend.I'm really loving being a mum, even if I do feel like a bit of a cow a lot of the time :-)

Wed, February 27, 2008 - 5:47 PMHe looks beautiful!
Please don't spend a whit of your precious energy feeling guilty about the way the delivery went! (I only say that because - 5 years later - I'm still getting over my emergency C-section with *general* anesthesia!)
Glad to hear you're dancing!

Re: oscar!
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 3:48 AMI told myself all along I'd go with the flow when it came to labour. I'd try and do things naturally if I could, but i knew so many people who's birth didn't go to plan it was quite an eye opener. In the end after 2 days of pre labour after getting the flu and my waters breaking early, I was so grateful for the epidural as it allowed me to rest for part of the labour..it was administered very skillfully and I had full control of my legs and could top up the painkiller as I needed...the pushing part was really hard at the end though:-) what with his ear getting stuck!
The staff at St Thomas's hospital in London were amazing and really nurturing. they really understood the mothering the mother bit and both my midwives gave me hugs and brought me and my partner tea and toast on demand. I thought it was so sweet that the national health service pay for a tea and toast making facility ( very english) Actually one of my midwives was Spanish and the other one was Iranian!
I think belly dancing really helped me with carrying my bump and not getting back ache even though I have a prolapsed disc, and its helped me recover quicker after the birth as well. Oscar does these mammoth long cluster breast-feeds so I sit there watching my fcbd dvd's and doing belly rolls :-) Still can't believe I'm now a mama!!!!

I just made the same comment the other day... sometimes it feels like all I do is nurse the baby and pump!
Good for you getting back to dancing!
Enjoy your precious little one! -

Tue, March 4, 2008 - 6:05 PMI have finally been able to freeze some milk and it feels like such a major achievement as my bubba kept sucking me dry!! Welcome to the strange bovine world of motherhood. -

Re: oscar!
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 12:11 PMI know how you feel - I feel like a cow. My dad teases me and says "moo" when ever he sees me.
The pumping thing was a bit weird at first, and I was afraid I would never build up a frozen supply (I had to go back to work a couple of weeks ago when he was 6 weeks), but it's getting better, and I am even pumping an extra 4 -8 ounces a day to store.
And thanks for the compliment on my boy! I'm quite smittin' with him. Perhaps one day we can get our boys together... :-) -

Re: oscar!
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 3:24 PMGosh Wendi...must be hard to return to work when your bubbers 6 weeks old. I'm really impressed with you for doing that and breastfeeding!! Are you working full time?
Thats funny about your dad ;-). A friend of mine has a new baby and a 4 year old daughter who was saying to everyone " mummy's milking again!" tee hee.
I am smitten with my boy too!! Its such a falling in love thing isn't it? I hope our boy can play the darbuka together one day :-)
