new study but not new news- linguists found that babies in the last trimester picked up on a speaker's cadence and could distinguish between a familiar person reading a poem and someone else reading the same poem by observing heart beat response.
another interesting note- babies also seem to have their own innate rhythm & it is easier to soothe a baby if you can tap into their rhythm. so if rocking your baby doesn't work, see if you have a 'bounce' baby that likes a slightly faster tempo, etc. you can pick up on their rhythm by listening to the cadence of their cry, watching how a foot twitches, etc.
