After baby belly frustration

topic posted Fri, April 4, 2008 - 11:41 PM by  sapphire pho...
I'm getting so frustrated. Ive never been afraid of having my belly out until now. I'm a big girl to begin with but now i have ugly marks all over.
The largeness doesn't bother me its the marks. Ive tried every cream known to man and even make up nothing seems to help.
I have a major show coming up and my troupe doesn't wear tummy covers and i don't know what to.
ive thought about getting a mesh leotard but am afraid i would stick out in the line and am afraid of getting the wrong one.
Were wearing tank style choli-ish tops they kinda look like a sports bra but pretier
Its so weird how ive always had self confidence about dancing at my size and am even in the big beautiful bellydancers calander but ever since i had my baby ive been freaking out about my tummy. I didnt gain much weight and its gone now but gosh it looks scary!

any suggestions of what i should do?

I would suggest the mesh, as it helps to cover up my stretch marks. Ask your troupe if they would support you if you decided to wear one!
Cause hey its all about feeling good about yourself.

I'm in the same boat as you. Get a tummy cover from sugarpetals.com. they cover up nicely and there are a variety of styles to choose.

We have several girls in our troupe that wear tummy covers. By far, the favorites are from sugarpetals. Personally, I don't think they are that noticeable from the audience, so you shouldn't have an issue as far as your troupe is concerned.

        (((hugs)))

I don't see any reason you couldn't wear a mesh belly cover...if the rest have bare bellies, just get a nude/tan one (I think someone told me recently to get tan because the nude frequently looks white on stage, but don't take my word as gospel, ask when you're looking at 'em, or ask someone who has one...).

How long ago did you have your baby? It takes quite a while for stretch marks to fade (like months and months), but the redness does fade quite a bit and they become kind of silvery color and much thinner. I have some from my first pregnancy, and I was very self conscious about them too for quite a while. Then I just kind of stopped caring after a while...not sure why. Sometimes I think about it when I have to do 'up close' performances like in restaurants, but for stage shows it's really a visual non-issue, I think.
That said, I think I'm going to have quite a few more from my current pregnancy though, so I'll holler back atcha in a few months and maybe we'll be commiserating together (though I dearly hope you're not still self-conscious by then...). :)

Either way, if you're that concerned about it right now you should be able to talk to your troupemates about it. I'm not sure it's fair to ask everyone to wear belly-covers all the time (for my part, I find them *extremely* uncomfortable), but at least for some things you and they should be able to compromise. And again, I don't think you'd stick out from the line at all if you were wearing a skin-tone mesh cover, if it comes down to it.

    Keep us posted!

I worked it out with my troupe. Im going to add a flap with either chiffon or the matieral left over from the top. A few other girls are going to do it too so i dont look like the only one. My troup is awsome, we always work things out.
i was fine with my stretch marks from being overweight but damn these are like gouges!
I need to be patient and give it time.
I had my son 10 weeks ago. Its just been more frustrating because i have hypothyroidism and i lost 30 pounds while i was pregnant because my thyroid was acutally doing its job. I was fine after i had him and acutally felt great. Ive now put on something like 35 pounds and feel horrible. Were trying to figure out my medicine right now since i loose my insurence in 2 weeks.
