Hi ladies!
I've got an 8.5-month-old little girl in my belly, and she's laying on my spine! She's head down, but if she stays facing this way when I go into labor that will mean back labor. I'm trying to spend a lot of time on my side or even on my hands and knees to try to get her to shift her spine around...anyone else have any suggestions on movements or poses that might encourage her to shift around?
Thanks!

Re: movements or yoga poses to shift a baby?
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 11:27 AMI have just covered this issue in Uni.
you need to avoid doing deep squats and should be instead crawling around on your hans and knees in the knee to chest position. Ok I shall try and describe it.
When on your hands and knees, stick your bum in the air, to tip the baby back up out of your pelvis so that there is more room for her to turn around. they recommend that you do that for about 30 minutes a day, if she continues to stay in the OP position. Put your favourite music on and go for it. Let me know if it works so that I can report back .
the other thing is to sit at the edge of your seat upright without back suport and not lay right back into it, apparently these OP positions are a result of our lazy boy type chairs. Get on a birthing ball this helps too, or even try sitting back to front on a upright chair. And when you do go into labour, stay off the bed!!! Move about, deliver on hands and knees.

Re: movements or yoga poses to shift a baby?
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 6:03 PMby all means try to get that darling turned around, but a bit of comfort- LG was facing back and if anything it was faster & less painful than JI who was turned the right way, so it's not the end of the world, especially for someone as fit as you seemed last weekend! an experienced doula/midwife/massage therapist may be able to manipulate baby the other way round, but boy, that is an ordeal in & of itself!

Mon, April 21, 2008 - 9:52 AMThanks ladies! Lara, that's so great to know that this position doesn't necessarily mean labor will be more difficult. (By the way, I totally surprised myself at how much I was able to dance at the workshop!!)
I'm going to see my acupuncturist today, who has an awesome reputation for flipping breach babies. We'll see what she can do with this! And shoot, if my little girl doesn't move, she doesn't move and I'll deal with it :)
Counting down the days,

Re: movements or yoga poses to shift a baby?
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 11:06 AMUpdate!
I spent as much time as I could on my hands and knees, sat on an exercise ball at work, and also spent a lot of time behind my desk with my chair turned backwards and leaning over the back to get to my keyboard (if that makes sense).
Anyway, it worked! I delivered my beautiful Baby Sofia last Wednesday morning, and she was situated perfectly! No back labor for me!!
Thank you all for your advice, Sofia thanks you, and my back thanks you!!! I am one blissful Mama. -
